Shadow Brook Farm, from the air

  1. 1908

    Dr. Ernest Fahnestock buys the 115-acre George W. Stillwell farm and names it Shadow Brook Farm.

  2. 1910

    Architects Albro & Lindeberg complete a 25-room Georgian-style mansion, set 1,000 feet back along a maple-lined drive.

  3. 1943

    Frederick Thorngreen opens the Shadow Brook Inn: restaurant, hotel and night club.

  4. 1953

    Rod Keller and Robert Downs rename it Shadowbrook. The Oak Room opens onto the gardens and a Bride’s Room is added.

  5. 1971

    The Zweben family begins 43 years of stewardship. It is said the guest list came to include Sinatra, Springsteen and Mick Jagger.

  6. 1982

    Major renovations in authentic early-1900s materials: an enclosed porch, a new portico and a honeycombed ceiling from an English castle.

  7. 2015

    A new chapter. The mansion and its 18 acres pass to the partners who own and operate Shadowbrook today.
